Hey I’m Jono.

I’m a writer, public speaker and advocate.

My life: it begins with me

Growing up with a disability in a society that doesn’t accept people who stray from the norm has been uniquely challenging. In spite of this, I have developed an unwavering determination to defy limits and amplify the voices and stories that are often dimmed under the spotlight. Battling against the odds has rarely ever dimmed my spirit. Instead, it’s fuelled my passion for disability advocacy.

As a person with Cerebral Palsy, I navigate the world in a wheelchair with a trusty tablet as my communication device but in this ableist world, I’ve found that the road is long, and often inaccessible.

Cerebral Palsy is a global term used to describe physical impairment involving limitation or loss of function and mobility in the body due to brain damage.

So despite the barriers imposed on people with disability, I’ve discovered my own ways to express myself and share my desires, needs and experiences. Although I expend more energy than most people when I communicate, rest assured, I have a lot to say and I will say it!

I care about building a more inclusive and accessible society. Over the years, I have built a brand teaching the community about complex disability and navigating all that comes with it. I work with students, teachers, organisations, government departments to share my lived experience as a person with disability and consult on strategies and projects that ensure a better quality of life for marginalised folks.

What I do
(and do well)

I speak and present using assistive technology, but I always make sure my voice is heard

I write about: Life, Society, Ableism, Dating and Support Work. For those inclined, I'm developing another blog on that explores sex and relationships as a person with disability.
